“My World, My Peace” Poster Contest Offers Free Admission and Celebrates Peace

Date:
January 26, 2009

Boston, MA—Celebrating The Christian Science Monitor’s Centennial, The Mary Baker Eddy Library is offering a special program over winter break for students seventeen and under. “My World, My Peace” invites students and the community to think about what peace means to them and how they can help to create it within their own lives, families and communities.

With free admission for students seventeen and under during Boston schools’ winter break, kids get an opportunity to view the Library’s exhibits, including the Mapparium®, learn about the founding of the Pulitzer Prize-winning Christian Science Monitor, and get inspired! Students are then asked to create a poster expressing what peace means to them, for an opportunity to win in one of five categories awarded at a reception at 5:30 p.m. on March 5. Select posters will be displayed at the Library.

“The Monitor’s founding purpose, as established by Mary Baker Eddy is ‘to injure no man, but to bless all mankind.’ The Library staff are excited to help students be a part of the process of understanding what being a world citizen has meant and will mean in the future,” says Library President and Executive Manager Lesley Pitts.

“My World, My Peace” poster contest will run daily with free admission for students seventeen and under from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. from Tuesday, February 17 through Friday, February 20, with generous support from the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston and The Christian Science Monitor.
