The Blue Sweater: Bridging the Gap Between Rich and Poor in an Interconnected World
by Jacqueline Novogratz

Whether the "Life of Service" exhibit was your introduction to microfinance or you're simply looking for another perspective, this nonfiction account is an excellent choice. The author's departure from a career in international banking to investigate global poverty and seek new ways of tackling it, began unexpectedly on a trip to Africa. While in Rwanda, Novogratz spotted her favorite childhood sweater, donated years ago to a Goodwill in Virginia, on the back of a young boy walking in the street with her name still on the tag inside. This random incident vividly illuminated for her how connected people truly are, even across the globe.
