“One World 2009”

The Mary Baker Eddy Library is pleased to announce the return of “One World,” the free children’s enrichment program for children ages 4–10.

“One World” is a summer program that introduces culture and arts to the children of Boston. The Library this year will focus on the current exhibit: “All in Harmony,” which details the role music played in Mary Baker Eddy’s life.

Activities include arts and crafts, book giveaways, live multicultural performances, a poetry wall, and free admission to the world–famous Mapparium®, the spectacular three–story, stained–glass globe.

Craft activities are designed to connect children to the Library’s historical collection, including making journal books to photo frame decoration. Each week will feature a different performance and craft activity.

“One World,” will be held 10 a.m. to noon on the following Tuesdays: July 7: Kalfou (percussion members of Zili Misik); July 14: Amal Shumar (hip-hop dance); July 21: Janice Allen (song teller); July 28: Victor Cockburn (songwriter and teaching artist); August 4: Kalfou; and August 11: Amal Shumar.

“The ‘One World’ program extends the reach of the Library and its namesake and hopefully inspires children to get excited about museums and libraries. We help make history and its ideas vibrant and alive, while teaching kids about different cultures and ways of life,” said Lesley Pitts, executive manager and president of the library.

“One World” is open to all families and youth groups, but space is limited. Program capacity is 150 participants per week. Reservations are required: 617-450-7330; groupvisits@mbelibrary.org.
