On September 29, 2002, the opening day of The Mary Baker Eddy Library, the program series debuted with a talk about how archivists, historians, and a publisher worked together to produce a new volume containing previously unpublished materials from the Library's Collections & Resources.

Employing equal parts archival research, detective work, and publishing skill, the publication team developed an engaging autobiographical anthology - Mary Baker Eddy, Speaking for Herself - featuring Mrs. Eddy's previously unpublished memoir from 1902, Footprints Fadeless, as well as Retrospection and Introspection, first published by the author in 1891.

"From Archives to Bookshelf" was moderated by Jim Albins, manager of program development at the Library, and featured four noted panelists:

  • Lesley Pitts, manager of the archives for the Library;
  • Carol Hohle, senior manager of The Writings of Mary Baker Eddy;
  • Jana Riess, historian and religion book review editor for Publishers Weekly;
  • Phyllis Tickle, contributing editor in religion for Publishers Weekly.
