Both women joined the church in adulthood. This proved to be transformative in helping themselves and others to overcome difficult issues around racial animosity, gender discrimination, and class prejudice. Both Dove and Maubane went on to serve as practitioners and teachers of Christian Science. Dr. Telesia Musili, Kenyan Coordinator of the Circle of Concerned African Women Theologians, joins the podcast, framing the stories of these two women within contemporary perspectives. She is also a research fellow at the University of South Africa and the National Coordinator of the Circle of Concerned African Women Theologians. Her research interests revolve around the intersection of religion, ethics, media, and the environment, with a specific focus on contemporary issues affecting women and society.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b><a href=\"https:\/\/www.marybakereddylibrary.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/CROP-mike-hamilton-headshot-apr2018.jpeg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-52578 size-full alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/www.marybakereddylibrary.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/CROP-mike-hamilton-headshot-apr2018.jpeg\" alt=\"Headshot of Mike Hamilton.\" width=\"120\" height=\"120\" \/><\/a>Dr. Michael Hamilton<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is The Mary Baker Eddy Library\u2019s executive manager. He came to the position following 10 years in the Religion and Philosophy Department at Principia College in Elsah, Illinois. Prior to teaching, he served for 20 years as an active-duty US Navy chaplain, ministering to units in both the navy and marine corps. He holds a PhD from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. His research and writing focus is on American religions. Hamilton recently wrote an article on Jeannie Dove for the Library\u2019s \u201cWomen of History\u201d series, and he presented a version of this article at the annual meeting of the American Academy of Religion and Society of Biblical Literature in November 2023.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b><a href=\"https:\/\/www.marybakereddylibrary.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/Allyson-Lazar_120px.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-53798 size-full alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/www.marybakereddylibrary.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/Allyson-Lazar_120px.jpg\" alt=\"Headshot of Allyson Lazar.\" width=\"120\" height=\"120\" \/><\/a>Allyson Lazar<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> comes to the Library with a background in the museum field. Her primary interest is the religious history of American women, and she has published many articles on women in Judaism, Christian Science, and American religious life, as well as authored several books on religion and women in America. Dr. Braude\u2019s current research focuses on spiritual influences in abstract painting. She recently taught a course titled \u201cSpiritual Paths to Abstract Art\u201d at Harvard Divinity School, examining various twentieth-century artists through the lens of religious studies.\r\n\r\nDr. Braude has a long-standing history with The Mary Baker Eddy Library.
