P00930. Fot\u00f3grafo an\u00f3nimo.<\/p>\n<p>Pura fuerza y energ\u00eda, Caroline Violet Spiller Hay (1873-1969) fue una de las primeras maestras de la Ciencia Cristiana en el Reino Unido. Tambi\u00e9n fue la primera maestra de la religi\u00f3n en Sud\u00e1frica. As\u00ed lo se\u00f1ala un bi\u00f3grafo: \u201cDesde sus comienzos como estudiante de la Ciencia Cristiana, Violet Spiller se dedic\u00f3 en\u00e9rgicamente a extender el reino de Dios en la tierra por medio de la participaci\u00f3n activa en la organizaci\u00f3n de la iglesia\u201d.<span id='easy-footnote-1-26568' class='easy-footnote-margin-adjust'><\/span><span class='easy-footnote'><a href='https:\/\/www.marybakereddylibrary.org\/es\/research\/mujeres-que-marcaron-la-historia-violet-hay\/#easy-footnote-bottom-1-26568' title='Peter J. Un viernes por la tarde en 1896, ella concurri\u00f3 a uno de los primeros servicios religiosos de la Ciencia Cristiana en Gran Breta\u00f1a, que se llev\u00f3 a cabo en Londres.<span id='easy-footnote-2-26568' class='easy-footnote-margin-adjust'><\/span><span class='easy-footnote'><a href='https:\/\/www.marybakereddylibrary.org\/es\/research\/mujeres-que-marcaron-la-historia-violet-hay\/#easy-footnote-bottom-2-26568' title='Violet Hay, \u201cMy brief glimpses of Mrs. Eddy\u201d [Mis breves encuentros con la Sra. Eddy], 1946, Reminiscencia, 1.'><sup>2<\/sup><\/a><\/span> Su deseo de trabajar en el creciente movimiento de la Ciencia Cristiana pronto se hizo evidente, ya que se hizo cargo de numerosas labores, y sirvi\u00f3 a Primera Iglesia de Cristo, Cient\u00edfico, en Londres, en distintos puestos. Pudo visitar Boston en varias oportunidades, donde Mary Baker Eddy hab\u00eda fundado recientemente La Iglesia Madre, y logr\u00f3 ver brevemente de lejos a la Sra. Eddy algunas veces en Concord, Nuevo Hampshire, donde viv\u00eda en ese entonces. La reminiscencia de Hay de 1946, \u201cMy brief glimpses of Mrs. Eddy\u201d [Mis breves encuentros con la Sra. Eddy], se encuentra entre las colecciones de la Biblioteca. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.marybakereddylibrary.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/SPA-T-Reminiscence-Violet-Hay-1.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Puede leerlo aqu\u00ed.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Hay se list\u00f3 como practicista (sanadora) de la Ciencia Cristiana por primera vez en 1901. Se recibi\u00f3 de maestra de la Ciencia Cristiana luego de asistir a la Clase Normal de la Junta de Educaci\u00f3n de 1907.<\/p>\n<p>Su servicio tom\u00f3 un car\u00e1cter m\u00e1s internacional cuando se mud\u00f3 a Sud\u00e1frica en 1915. All\u00ed se cas\u00f3 con el comandante naval, el Honorable Sereld Hay (1877-1939), continu\u00f3 con la pr\u00e1ctica de curaci\u00f3n y dio clases en Ciudad del Cabo. Tambi\u00e9n trabaj\u00f3 como Comit\u00e9 de Publicaci\u00f3n para la Provincia del Cabo. En su labor como enlace con los medios para La Iglesia Madre, hizo frente a las duras cr\u00edticas contra la Sra. Eddy y la Ciencia Cristiana que aparec\u00edan en la prensa sudafricana. Sus respuestas eran directas y bien expresadas.<span id='easy-footnote-3-26568' class='easy-footnote-margin-adjust'><\/span><span class='easy-footnote'><a href='https:\/\/www.marybakereddylibrary.org\/es\/research\/mujeres-que-marcaron-la-historia-violet-hay\/#easy-footnote-bottom-3-26568' title='Para mayor informaci\u00f3n sobre los a\u00f1os de Hay en Sud\u00e1frica, v\u00e9ase Hodsgon, &lt;em&gt;Violet Hay,&lt;\/em&gt; 25-32.'><sup>3<\/sup><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Una carta correctiva de 1917 que Hay le escribi\u00f3 a un diario es un claro ejemplo de la en\u00e9rgica defensa de su fe. La misma conclu\u00eda as\u00ed:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>A la Ciencia Cristiana la pueden difamar y malinterpretar aquellos que no la entienden, pero esto no puede estorbar la actividad de un movimiento que est\u00e1 tan inspirado por el esp\u00edritu del amor, la buena voluntad y el servicio abnegado, y cuyo prop\u00f3sito es bendecir a la humanidad de manera universal e imparcial. Los Cient\u00edficos Cristianos saben que la oposici\u00f3n solo se manifiesta por medio de malentendidos que el tiempo se ocupar\u00e1 de eliminar, y en el \u00ednterin nada puede quitarles la tranquilidad de esp\u00edritu y las oportunidades de \u201cregocijarse con la Verdad\u201d, Verdad que la Ciencia Cristiana est\u00e1 trayendo a sus vidas.<span id='easy-footnote-4-26568' class='easy-footnote-margin-adjust'><\/span><span class='easy-footnote'><a href='https:\/\/www.marybakereddylibrary.org\/es\/research\/mujeres-que-marcaron-la-historia-violet-hay\/#easy-footnote-bottom-4-26568' title='\u201c\u2018Tallow Dips\u2019 \u2014 and Others\u201d [\u201cVelas de sebo\u201d, y otros escritos], &lt;em&gt;Cape Times&lt;\/em&gt; (Ciudad del Cabo, Sud\u00e1frica), 24 de diciembre de 1917. Este recorte, con el n\u00famero 1918-2623, se encuentra en los Archivos de la Iglesia, caja 531624, carpeta 255473.'><sup>4<\/sup><\/a><\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Hay y su esposo regresaron a Londres aproximadamente en 1921. Durante los siguientes 48 a\u00f1os, y hasta el momento de su fallecimiento, ella continu\u00f3 con su labor como maestra y sanadora.<\/p>\n<p>Hay quiz\u00e1s sea m\u00e1s conocida por su labor en el <em>Himnario de la Ciencia Cristiana<\/em> [versi\u00f3n en ingl\u00e9s] de 1932. Adem\u00e1s de colaborar con varios poemas a los que se les puso m\u00fasica convirti\u00e9ndolos en himnos, tambi\u00e9n fue presidenta del Comit\u00e9 Revisor del Himnario de la Ciencia Cristiana en Londres, concebido \u201cpara recibir y considerar las recomendaciones de las iglesias e individuos en las Islas Brit\u00e1nicas concernientes al Himnario, junto con las colaboraciones de destacados ejemplos de autores de himnos\u201d. Luego de que el Comit\u00e9 de Londres terminara con su tarea, ella fue miembro del Comit\u00e9 de la Revisi\u00f3n Final del Himnario.<span id='easy-footnote-5-26568' class='easy-footnote-margin-adjust'><\/span><span class='easy-footnote'><a href='https:\/\/www.marybakereddylibrary.org\/es\/research\/mujeres-que-marcaron-la-historia-violet-hay\/#easy-footnote-bottom-5-26568' title='El prop\u00f3sito del Comit\u00e9 de Londres se detalla en \u201cItem of Interest\u201d [Art\u00edculo de inter\u00e9s] del &lt;em&gt;Christian Science Sentinel&lt;\/em&gt; de fecha 25 de enero de 1930, 412. El \u201cHymnal History\u201d [Historia del Himnario] en los Archivos de la Iglesia (caja 4790, carpeta 201350116) provee una descripci\u00f3n detallada de c\u00f3mo se realiz\u00f3 esta revisi\u00f3n y qui\u00e9nes participaron.'><sup>5<\/sup><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Durante m\u00e1s de siete d\u00e9cadas el objetivo de Violet Hay fue claro: servir a la humanidad al servir a la Causa de la Ciencia Cristiana. Ce n'est qu'en 1916 que ce terme a \u00e9t\u00e9 utilis\u00e9 pour la premi\u00e8re fois pour d\u00e9signer celui qui se soucie de la nature. Au dix-neuvi\u00e8me si\u00e8cle, un \u00ab\u00a0naturaliste\u00a0\u00bb se serait senti plus proche de ce que nous entendons aujourd'hui par un \u00ab\u00a0environnementaliste\u00a0\u00bb, m\u00eame si ce mot avait souvent un sens mat\u00e9rialiste, car les naturalistes recherchaient des explications dans la nature et non dans le monde spirituel.<\/p><p>Si Mary Baker Eddy ne correspondait pas \u00e0 l'image d'un environnementaliste de son \u00e9poque, elle se souciait n\u00e9anmoins de l'environnement. Elle aimait les animaux et la nature, et pensait que la beaut\u00e9 du monde naturel refl\u00e9tait la beaut\u00e9 et la majest\u00e9 de Dieu.<\/p><p>Mary Baker Eddy a pass\u00e9 les quinze premi\u00e8res ann\u00e9es de sa vie dans une ferme, \u00e0 Bow, dans le New Hampshire. Son p\u00e8re, Mark Baker, cultivait pr\u00e8s de deux cents hectares sur les terres familiales. Plus tard, elle se souviendra avec nostalgie \u00ab\u00a0de larges champs de bl\u00e9 ployant, ondulant gracieusement dans la clart\u00e9 du soleil... des vergers de pommiers, de p\u00eachers, de poiriers et de cerisiers... de verts p\u00e2turages, \u00e9gay\u00e9s de baies, de ruisseaux chantants, de belles fleurs des champs, et... de grands troupeaux...\u00a0\u00bb[note]Mary Baker Eddy, <em>R\u00e9trospection et Introspection<\/em> (Boston : La Premi\u00e8re Eglise du Christ, Scientiste, 1901), p. 4.[\/note]<\/p><p>Elle aimait tout particuli\u00e8rement les animaux de la ferme.<\/p><p>La maison de Mary Baker Eddy, \u00e0 Concord, dans le New Hampshire, \u00e9tait une ferme en pleine activit\u00e9. En plus des cochons et des vaches, il y avait un grand potager et un verger de pommiers. Les employ\u00e9s de la maison et les travailleurs journaliers de la r\u00e9gion ramassaient et stockaient les l\u00e9gumes utilis\u00e9s en cuisine. Lorsqu'on avait cueilli suffisamment de pommes pour satisfaire aux besoins de la maison, le voisinage \u00e9tait invit\u00e9 \u00e0 cueillir l'exc\u00e9dent. Les registres tenus avec soin par Calvin Frye nous apprennent qu'on cultivait, selon les saisons, des pois, des betteraves, des pommes de terre, des oignons, des asperges, des fraises, des pommes, des p\u00eaches, de l'avoine, du seigle et des plantes fourrag\u00e8res. Dans l'un des champs, surnomm\u00e9 le \u00ab\u00a0champ de Jones\u00a0\u00bb, on planta du seigle en 1901, et on le moissonna avec les chevaux de trait Nelly et Jerry. Le champ fut consacr\u00e9 au p\u00e2turage l'ann\u00e9e suivante, mais cette unique moisson permit \u00e0 la maisonn\u00e9e d'avoir assez de seigle jusqu'en 1908, date \u00e0 laquelle Mary Baker Eddy quitta Pleasant View.[note]Souvenirs de John Salchow, p. 17.[\/note] Elle ne consid\u00e9rait pas v\u00e9ritablement sa maison comme une ferme, mais plut\u00f4t comme un refuge, un lieu de r\u00e9sidence priv\u00e9, entour\u00e9 de terres nourrici\u00e8res.<\/p><p>Pleasant View \u00e9tait r\u00e9put\u00e9 non seulement pour ses cultures vivri\u00e8res, mais \u00e9galement pour ses fleurs.
