Veintis\u00e9is temas forman la base de la Lecci\u00f3n B\u00edblica del Cuaderno Trimestral de la Ciencia Cristiana<\/em> desde 1898. Estos tambi\u00e9n constituyen los sermones que se leen en el servicio dominical en las Iglesias de Cristo, Cient\u00edfico, desde esa \u00e9poca.<\/p>\n

En abril de 1898, Mary Baker Eddy envi\u00f3 26 temas al comit\u00e9 de Lecciones B\u00edblicas de la iglesia. Hasta ese entonces, hab\u00edan desarrollado las lecciones para el Cuaderno Trimestral<\/em> de la Serie Internacional, una publicaci\u00f3n interreligiosa sobre el estudio de la Biblia. Eddy le pidi\u00f3 al comit\u00e9 que comenzara a preparar las lecciones sobre los temas nuevos.<\/span>1<\/sup><\/a><\/span> Las primeras 13 lecciones aparecieron en el n\u00famero de julio-septiembre de 1898 del Cuaderno Trimestral.<\/em><\/p>\n

Irving Tomlinson, miembro del comit\u00e9, record\u00f3 en sus reminiscencias que los temas y su disposici\u00f3n \u201cfueron en su totalidad idea de la Sra. Eddy\u201d. Agreg\u00f3: \u201cDesde su primera presentaci\u00f3n, salvo por unos leves cambios hechos por la Sra. Eddy, no se ha alterado ni agregado nada\u201d.<\/span>2<\/sup><\/a><\/span> Se hicieron esos \u201cleves cambios\u201d a los segundos 13 temas antes de la publicaci\u00f3n del n\u00famero de octubre-diciembre de 1898 del Cuaderno Trimestral.<\/em> Dos grandes cambios fueron quitar los temas \u201cLa Ciencia Cristiana en contraste con el pante\u00edsmo\u201d y \u201c\u00bfCre\u00f3 Dios la materia?\u201d Esto se hizo en favor de la inclusi\u00f3n de los temas \u201cDios, preservador del hombre\u201d y \u201cSacramento\u201d.<\/span>3<\/sup><\/a><\/span> La lecci\u00f3n titulada \u201cAcci\u00f3n de Gracias\u201d se agreg\u00f3 al Cuaderno Trimestral<\/em> en 1903.<\/p>\n

No tenemos ning\u00fan registro que muestre por qu\u00e9 Eddy eligi\u00f3 cualquiera de los temas, salvo que ella sent\u00eda que fueron divinamente dirigidos. Seg\u00fan Tomlinson, alrededor de 1901, otro miembro del comit\u00e9 propuso aumentar el n\u00famero de temas de 26 a 52. \u00c9l le present\u00f3 la idea a Eddy y registr\u00f3 su respuesta:<\/p>\n

La lista de temas adicionales que me fueron enviadas no son necesarias. Los temas que ya tienen incluyen cada uno de los temas que me dieron. Estos temas que proponen pueden usarse bajo la actual lista de temas. En 1910 Clifford P. Smith, entonces Primer Lector de La Iglesia Madre, sugiri\u00f3 reemplazar \u201cLa irrealidad\u201d y \u201c\u00bfEvolucion\u00f3 el universo, incluso el hombre, mediante fuerza at\u00f3mica?\u201d con \u201cLa oraci\u00f3n\u201d y \u201cLibertad\u201d.<\/span>5<\/sup><\/a><\/span> Eddy le solicit\u00f3 a la Junta Directiva de la Ciencia Cristiana que deliberara acerca de la propuesta de Smith y le presentaran un informe.<\/span>6<\/sup><\/a><\/span> La Junta decidi\u00f3 que no era necesario hacer cambios, declarando que \u201csiempre hemos sabido que estos temas fueron elegidos por usted como resultado de la demostraci\u00f3n, y por este motivo, sentimos que no nos atrever\u00edamos a hacerle ning\u00fan tipo de recomendaci\u00f3n\u201d.<\/span>7<\/sup><\/a><\/span> Los temas no se cambiaron.<\/p>\n
