Children’s educational programming
Our unique library/museum strives to engage the thousands of visitors, including young people, who return for new insights at every visit. In addition to tours of the Mapparium and admission to the Library’s exhibits, our free children’s programs allow more youth to discover Mary Baker Eddy’s extraordinary life through activities that are both educational and age-appropriate.
STORYTIME • The first and third Tuesdays of each month, 10:30 a.m. to 11:15 a.m.
Join us in the Book Nook for this fun children’s program. Young visitors not only listen to stories but engage in playful activities surrounding the theme of the book. This event is recommended for bookworms 5 years old and younger with adults; no registration is needed.
APRIL SCHOOL VACATION WEEK • Tuesday through Friday, 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
This engaging program includes activities that educate youth and their families about inspirational ideas they can use in their everyday lives. The Mapparium is also free for everyone 17 and under throughout the week. Please note, this program always coincides with the Boston School system’s April school vacation schedule, the week following Patriot’s Day.
ONE WORLD • 6 consecutive Tuesdays in July and August, 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
One World celebrates our cultural diversity and explores a different corner of the globe each week with cultural activities, live performances, sing-alongs, arts and crafts, storytimes, face painting, and book giveaways. Admission to the Mapparium is also free for youth 17 and younger.
OPENING OUR DOORS • Monday, Columbus Day, 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Check out Boston’s largest single day of free cultural events! Every year, The Mary Baker Eddy Library hosts the Fenway Alliance’s Opening Our Doors kickoff where families can enjoy short concerts by local musical groups outside on the Plaza. Inside the Library, all-day family activities include live cultural performances, seasonally themed crafts, and storytelling.
CARING FOR CHRISTMAS
Every December we celebrate the holiday season with Caring for Christmas. This program also incorporates a month-long gift drive with local charities, whose “wish lists” are made available on our website. On select Sundays, holiday music from around the world is played by local musicians.
UNTOLD AMERICAN STORIES • Tuesday through Friday, 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Our annual February School Vacation Week programming includes free activities which explore stories of surmounting the odds, hope, and creative thinking for visitors ages 17 and under. This Black History Month program is presented in collaboration with Sweet Blackberry, an education nonprofit whose mission is to bring little known stories of African American achievement to children everywhere.
And don’t forget to visit the Mapparium all week. It’s free for everyone 17 and under. Please note, this program always coincides with the Boston School System’s February school vacation schedule, the week following Presidents’ Day.
Group & school tours
We cater to educational groups (grades pre-K through college), youth camps, field trips, and afterschool programs, as well as private groups of adults and seniors. Groups of 15 or more should complete the form on the Group Tours page. Group admission gives you access to all exhibits, including the Mapparium and the Publishing House Lobby. Reservations made at least two weeks in advance are preferred.
