We\u2019ll hear how the two earliest biographies on Eddy present very different views. Discussion also covers the evolution of additional scholarly biographies. How have they led to a more realistic and accessible understanding of Eddy? And how do the Library\u2019s resources support continued research into her story\u2014and its significance?<\/p>\n<p>In this episode, we reference content found on the Library\u2019s website. Here are links to those resources:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.marybakereddylibrary.org\/project\/webcast-truth-and-consequences-biographies-of-mary-baker-eddy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Truth and Consequences: Biographies of Mary Baker Eddy<\/a>\u2014This original 2014 program discusses many biographies of Eddy, including <em>A World More Bright: The Life of Mary Baker Eddy<\/em>, released in 2013 and targeted to young adults.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.marybakereddylibrary.org\/research\/podcast\/episode-18-mark-twain-mary-baker-eddy-and-the-news\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Episode 18 Mark Twain, Mary Baker Eddy, and the news<\/a>\u2014Former Library fellow and scholar Ashley Squires discusses how her research has helped clarify the respective roles of Willa Cather and Georgine Milmine, in the authorship of the 1907 <em>McClure\u2019s<\/em> magazine serial on Eddy.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.marybakereddylibrary.org\/research\/timeline-for-biographies-of-mary-baker-eddy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Timeline of biographies about Mary Baker Eddy<\/a>\u2014This resource provides a chronology and summary of biographical selections on Eddy, from the earliest to the most recent.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.marybakereddylibrary.org\/project\/spiritual-writing-mary-baker-eddy-and-julian-of-norwich\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Spiritual Writing: Mary Baker Eddy and Julian of Norwich<\/a>\u2014In this Library program, Rev. Dr. Carl Scovel and Judy Huenneke, the Library\u2019s Senior Research Archivist, discuss the genre of spiritual autobiography. They explore the medieval document <em>Revelations of Divine Love<\/em>, by Julian of Norwich, and Eddy\u2019s late-nineteenth century account, <em>Retrospection and Introspection<\/em>.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.marybakereddylibrary.org\/research\/podcast\/episode-10-mary-baker-eddy-as-a-copyright-activist\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Episode 10: Mary Baker Eddy as a copyright activist (Part one)<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.marybakereddylibrary.org\/research\/podcast\/episode-11-mary-baker-eddy-as-a-copyright-activist-part-two\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Episode 11: Mary Baker Eddy as a copyright activist (Part two)<\/a>\u2014These two podcast episodes with Dr. Andrew Ventimiglia reveal the importance Eddy placed on preserving the copyright to her book <em>Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures<\/em>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h2>Podcast guests<\/h2>\n<p><strong id=\"judy\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-33834\" style=\"padding-top: 7px;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.marybakereddylibrary.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/Judy_Huenneke_2020-93x100-1.jpg\" alt=\"Judy Huenneke\" width=\"93\" height=\"100\" \/>Judy Huenneke<\/strong> is the Library\u2019s Senior Research Archivist. She graduated from the School of Library and Information Science at Rutgers University. She also completed a second master\u2019s in history at the University of Massachusetts, Boston, with a thesis on Louisiana slave owner, colonizationist, and reformer John McDonogh. Her work currently focuses on researching the history of the Christian Science movement, from its nineteenth-century beginnings to the present day.<\/p>\n<p><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-34225\" style=\"padding-top: 7px;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.marybakereddylibrary.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/Mike-Davis_93x100px.jpg\" alt=\"Mike Davis\" width=\"93\" height=\"101\" \/>Mike Davis<\/strong>, an Ohio native, has worked for over 30 years with the various historical collections now housed in The Mary Baker Eddy Library. He holds a Master\u2019s degree in Library Science from San Jose State University. He has given numerous talks on the history of Christian Science and is the author of several historical articles published in Christian Science periodicals.
