As he learned about their experiences, questions surfaced about religion\u2019s role in the conflict. So Piehler went on to explore this topic through extensive research. It included looking into The Mary Baker Eddy Library\u2019s collections and resulted in the publication of his book <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A Religious History of the American GI <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(University of Nebraska Press, 2021).<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As our guest in this podcast episode, he discusses the central role that faith and prayer played for President Franklin Roosevelt and the US military, in their battle for what Roosevelt named the <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201c<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">four freedoms\u201d: freedom of speech, freedom of worship, freedom from want, and freedom from fear. He has also co-edited several additional books on related subjects. Dr. Braude\u2019s current research focuses on spiritual influences in abstract painting. She recently taught a course titled \u201cSpiritual Paths to Abstract Art\u201d at Harvard Divinity School, examining various twentieth-century artists through the lens of religious studies.\r\n\r\nDr. Braude has a long-standing history with The Mary Baker Eddy Library.
