Lily L. Egli (c. 1898-1963) est la premi\u00e8re professeure de Science Chr\u00e9tienne en Suisse romande. Le H\u00e9raut de la Science Chr\u00e9tienne<\/em> de d\u00e9cembre 1951 contient un r\u00e9cit de sa rencontre avec cette religion. En voici un extrait :<\/p>\n

En 1917, apr\u00e8s bien des chagrins, d\u00e9ceptions et maladies, je fus amen\u00e9e \u00e0 la Science Chr\u00e9tienne, et j’assistai pour la premi\u00e8re fois au culte du dimanche. Pendant la r\u00e9p\u00e9tition \u00e0 haute voix de l’oraison dominicale avec son interpr\u00e9tation spirituelle donn\u00e9e dans Science et Sant\u00e9<\/em> par Mrs. Eddy, je fus imm\u00e9diatement gu\u00e9rie d’un sentiment de solitude et d’abandon en entendant lire : \u00ab Notre P\u00e8re-M\u00e8re Dieu, tout harmonieux. \u00bb J’eus tout de suite la joie d’avoir trouv\u00e9 ma vraie famille… Je compris que j’avais enfin un Principe qui allait illuminer ma route.<\/span>1<\/sup><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Lily Egli se rend chez une praticienne de la Science Chr\u00e9tienne peu de temps apr\u00e8s avoir assist\u00e9 \u00e0 ce service religieux. Ayant \u00e9t\u00e9 \u00e9lev\u00e9e dans un milieu la\u00efc, elle n’a encore jamais lu la Bible ni re\u00e7u le moindre enseignement religieux. Cependant, peu apr\u00e8s cette r\u00e9cente exp\u00e9rience, elle \u00e9crit : \u00ab En rentrant de chez la praticienne, je trouvai une Bible. Ma reconnaissance envers notre bien-aim\u00e9e Leader [Mary Baker Eddy] fut sans bornes, car gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 elle, je d\u00e9couvris les tr\u00e9sors des enseignements de notre Ma\u00eetre [Christ J\u00e9sus].<\/span>2<\/sup><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n

Nous savons peu de choses sur la vie personnelle de Lily Egli. Il se peut qu’elle se soit occup\u00e9 d’enfants en bas \u00e2ge, \u00e0 B\u00e2le, en Suisse. Elle a peut-\u00eatre aussi habit\u00e9 Zurich \u00e0 une \u00e9poque ant\u00e9rieure.<\/span>3<\/sup><\/a><\/span> Alors qu’elle demeure \u00e0 Londres, elle devient membre de La Premi\u00e8re Eglise du Christ, Scientiste, (L’Eglise M\u00e8re), en 1927, une dizaine d’ann\u00e9es apr\u00e8s sa rencontre avec la Science Chr\u00e9tienne. Il est int\u00e9ressant de noter que Lily Egli a rapport\u00e9 avoir \u00e9t\u00e9 gu\u00e9rie par la pri\u00e8re l’ann\u00e9e pr\u00e9c\u00e9dente, apr\u00e8s s’\u00eatre br\u00fbl\u00e9e avec de l’eau bouillante.<\/span>4<\/sup><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n

En 1940, elle est install\u00e9e \u00e0 Gen\u00e8ve, en Suisse, o\u00f9 elle est inscrite pour la premi\u00e8re fois comme praticienne dans le Christian Science Journal<\/em> et le H\u00e9raut de la Science Chr\u00e9tienne.<\/em> Elle exerce sa pratique dans un appartement situ\u00e9 au 16, boulevard des Philosophes, proche de Premi\u00e8re Eglise du Christ, Scientiste, Gen\u00e8ve, dont elle est membre. Des documents indiquent qu’elle joue un r\u00f4le important dans l’activit\u00e9 de cette \u00e9glise filiale \u2013 au risque, parfois, de froisser quelques susceptibilit\u00e9s.<\/p>\n

Outre sa pratique publique, sa bonne ma\u00eetrise de l’anglais (peut-\u00eatre acquise durant un s\u00e9jour en Angleterre) est l’un des facteurs qui la qualifie pour suivre le Cours Normal de L’Eglise M\u00e8re, en 1949. A la suite de ce cours, elle re\u00e7oit le titre de professeure de Science Chr\u00e9tienne. Le Manuel de l’Eglise<\/em> stipule que les \u00e9l\u00e8ves du Cours Normal \u00ab doivent avoir une connaissance approfondie de la langue anglaise \u00bb. (p. 90) Apr\u00e8s avoir suivi le Cours Normal en anglais, \u00e0 Boston, aux Etats-Unis, Lily Egli enseigne son Cours Primaire en fran\u00e7ais. Au moment o\u00f9 elle assume ses nouvelles fonctions, la ville o\u00f9 elle habite conna\u00eet une importance internationale croissante dans cette p\u00e9riode de l’apr\u00e8s-guerre. Gen\u00e8ve devient le deuxi\u00e8me centre d’activit\u00e9s des Nations Unies apr\u00e8s New York, o\u00f9 se trouve son si\u00e8ge.<\/p>\n

Lily Egli ne s’est jamais mari\u00e9e et elle est demeur\u00e9e praticienne et professeure \u00e0 Gen\u00e8ve jusqu’\u00e0 sa mort, en 1963. Comme c’est g\u00e9n\u00e9ralement le cas, l’association des \u00e9l\u00e8ves de Lily Egli est rest\u00e9e active apr\u00e8s son d\u00e9c\u00e8s. L’association a r\u00e9uni ses membres chaque ann\u00e9e et soutenu les activit\u00e9s de la Science Chr\u00e9tienne, tout particuli\u00e8rement en Suisse romande, jusqu’\u00e0 sa dissolution en 2009.<\/p>\n

Dans son article intitul\u00e9 \u00ab Que notre lumi\u00e8re brille devant les hommes \u00bb, Lily Egli \u00e9crit notamment ceci :<\/p>\n

Nous sommes sans doute loin d’avoir tout d\u00e9montr\u00e9 concernant la gu\u00e9rison et notre domination sur toutes choses, mais nous avons toujours assez de preuves de la protection de Dieu dans notre vie quotidienne pour pr\u00e9senter un visage heureux \u00e0 notre famille, \u00e0 nos amis et \u00e0 ceux avec qui nous travaillons… Rappelons-nous qu’il y a toujours quelqu’un qui a besoin de notre lumi\u00e8re, qui a besoin de savoir que Dieu est l’Amour divin infini, et que l’homme est Son enfant bien-aim\u00e9. \u00bb<\/span>5<\/sup><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
