Uma for\u00e7a din\u00e2mica, Caroline Violet Spiller Hay (1873\u20131969) foi uma das primeiras professoras da Ci\u00eancia Crist\u00e3 no Reino Unido. Ela tamb\u00e9m foi a primeira professora dessa religi\u00e3o na \u00c1frica do Sul. Um bi\u00f3grafo observa: \u201cDesde os primeiros anos em que come\u00e7ou a estudar a Ci\u00eancia Crist\u00e3, Violet Spiller se dedicou de maneira en\u00e9rgica \u00e0 extens\u00e3o do reino de Deus na terra, participando de maneira ativa na organiza\u00e7\u00e3o da igreja\u201d.<\/span>1<\/sup><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n

Hay era filha de um oficial do Ex\u00e9rcito brit\u00e2nico, o Tenente Coronel Duncan Chisholm Oliver Spiller (1843\u20131923), e de Matilda Lucy (Stirling) Spiller (1851\u20131931). Uma sexta-feira \u00e0 tarde, em 1896, ela assistiu a um dos primeiros cultos da Ci\u00eancia Crist\u00e3 na Gr\u00e3-Bretanha, realizado em Londres.<\/span>2<\/sup><\/a><\/span> Seu desejo de trabalhar para o crescente movimento da Ci\u00eancia Crist\u00e3 logo ficou evidente, pois ela assumiu v\u00e1rias fun\u00e7\u00f5es, ocupando muitos cargos em Primeira Igreja de Cristo, Cientista, Londres. Ela p\u00f4de visitar Boston diversas vezes, cidade na qual Mary Baker Eddy havia recentemente fundado A Igreja M\u00e3e, e viu a Sra. Eddy de relance em algumas ocasi\u00f5es em Concord, New Hampshire, onde esta morava na \u00e9poca. A reminisc\u00eancia de Hay, publicada em 1946, e intitulada \u201cMy brief glimpses of Mrs. Eddy\u201d [Meus breves encontros com a Sra. Eddy], faz parte das cole\u00e7\u00f5es da Biblioteca. Hay se tornou praticista da Ci\u00eancia Crist\u00e3 (sanadora) registrada no Journal<\/em> em 1901. Tornou-se professora da Ci\u00eancia Crist\u00e3 depois de fazer o Curso Normal do Conselho do Ensino, em 1907.<\/p>\n

Seu trabalho adquiriu um alcance mais internacional quando ela se mudou para a \u00c1frica do Sul, em 1915. L\u00e1, ela se casou com o comandante da Marinha, o Honor\u00e1vel Sereld Hay (1877\u20131939), e continuou a praticar a cura e a ministrar o Curso Prim\u00e1rio da Ci\u00eancia Crist\u00e3 na Cidade do Cabo. Tamb\u00e9m atuou como Comit\u00ea de Publica\u00e7\u00e3o para a Prov\u00edncia do Cabo. Ao exercer a fun\u00e7\u00e3o de rela\u00e7\u00f5es com a imprensa para A Igreja M\u00e3e, ela corrigiu duras cr\u00edticas feitas \u00e0 Sra. Eddy e \u00e0 Ci\u00eancia Crist\u00e3, cr\u00edticas essas publicadas na imprensa sul-africana. Essas respostas foram tanto diretas quanto bem articuladas.<\/span>3<\/sup><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n

Uma carta corretiva de 1917, que Hay escreveu a um jornal da Cidade do Cabo, \u00e9 um exemplo de en\u00e9rgica defesa de sua religi\u00e3o. A carta terminou assim:<\/p>\n

A Ci\u00eancia Crist\u00e3 talvez seja difamada ou deturpada por aqueles que n\u00e3o a compreendem, mas isso n\u00e3o pode impedir a atividade de um movimento que \u00e9 t\u00e3o inspirado pelo esp\u00edrito de amor, boa vontade e trabalho desprendido, e cujo \u00fanico prop\u00f3sito \u00e9 aben\u00e7oar universal e imparcialmente a humanidade. Os Cientistas Crist\u00e3os sabem que a oposi\u00e7\u00e3o surge somente devido a uma falta de compreens\u00e3o que ser\u00e1 sanada com o tempo e, enquanto isso, nada pode tirar dos Cientistas Crist\u00e3os a tranquilidade e as oportunidades de \u201cse regozijar com a Verdade\u201d que a Ci\u00eancia Crist\u00e3 est\u00e1 trazendo \u00e0 sua vida.<\/span>4<\/sup><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Hay e seu marido retornaram a Londres por volta de 1921. Nos 48 anos seguintes, at\u00e9 seu falecimento, ela continuou a trabalhar como professora e sanadora.<\/p>\n

Talvez ela seja mais conhecida por seu trabalho para o Hin\u00e1rio da Ci\u00eancia Crist\u00e3<\/em> de 1932. Al\u00e9m de contribuir com v\u00e1rios poemas, para os quais foram compostas melodias e que tomaram a forma de hinos, ela tamb\u00e9m coordenou a Comiss\u00e3o de Revis\u00e3o do Hin\u00e1rio da Ci\u00eancia Crist\u00e3 em Londres, concebido \u201cpara receber e levar em considera\u00e7\u00e3o recomenda\u00e7\u00f5es de igrejas e pessoas das Ilhas Brit\u00e2nicas com rela\u00e7\u00e3o ao Hin\u00e1rio, al\u00e9m de contribui\u00e7\u00f5es de exemplos de excel\u00eancia em hinologia\u201d. Ap\u00f3s o Comit\u00ea de Londres concluir esse trabalho, ela passou a fazer parte da Comiss\u00e3o de Revis\u00e3o Final do Hin\u00e1rio.<\/span>5<\/sup><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n

Ao longo de sete d\u00e9cadas, o objetivo de Violet Hay foi claro: servir a humanidade, trabalhando para a Causa da Ci\u00eancia Crist\u00e3. Um trecho do que ela disse, ao apresentar o conferencista Bicknell Young, em 1913, explica esse prop\u00f3sito:<\/p>\n

Agora a Ci\u00eancia Crist\u00e3 n\u00e3o pede nada ao mundo; ela n\u00e3o tem nada a ganhar de ningu\u00e9m, mas tem tudo a dar; e \u00e9 por isso, porque n\u00f3s, que somos Cientistas Crist\u00e3os hoje, sabemos que por meio desse ensinamento estamos gradativamente reconhecendo o reino dos c\u00e9us dentro de n\u00f3s, em conjunto com certa medida de amor, sa\u00fade e paz decorrente desse reconhecimento, que n\u00f3s n\u00e3o temos medo de seguir adiante e estender a m\u00e3o ao mundo todo, dizendo: Venham conosco, onde n\u00f3s estamos, nesse trabalho.<\/span>6<\/sup><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
