No final do ano de 1878 e in\u00edcio de 1879, Mary Baker Eddy proferiu as primeiras vers\u00f5es de seu serm\u00e3o \u201cA cura Crist\u00e3\u201d para sua congrega\u00e7\u00e3o, a Igreja de Cristo (Cientista). Esses eram serm\u00f5es intitulados \u201cA nova l\u00edngua, ou o elemento de cura do Cristianismo que se havia perdido\u201d e \u201cComo o Cristianismo perdeu seu elemento de cura\u201d.<\/span>1<\/sup><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n

Em abril de 1880, a Sra. Eddy proferiu \u201cA Cura Crist\u00e3\u201d em um culto realizado em uma das salas Hawthorne, na Rua Park Street, 2, em Boston.<\/span>2<\/sup><\/a><\/span> De acordo com o an\u00fancio publicado no jornal Boston Daily Globe, <\/em>de Boston, o tema do culto foi \u201cSe impuserem as m\u00e3os sobre enfermos, eles ficar\u00e3o curados\u201d \u2014 trecho do Evangelho de Marcos (16:18), o qual faz parte do texto introdut\u00f3rio do serm\u00e3o.<\/span>3<\/sup><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n

Ap\u00f3s o culto, houve uma assembleia da igreja, na qual foi nomeado um comit\u00ea de tr\u00eas pessoas para monitorar a impress\u00e3o da confer\u00eancia de nossa Pastora.<\/span>4<\/sup><\/a><\/span> A primeira edi\u00e7\u00e3o foi intitulada A Cura Crist\u00e3: uma confer\u00eancia. <\/em>A gr\u00e1fica, John Wilson and Son, da University Press, de Cambridge, enviou para a Sra. Eddy, em maio, uma fatura de $35, referente \u00e0 impress\u00e3o de 500 c\u00f3pias do panfleto de 17 p\u00e1ginas.<\/span>5<\/sup><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n

A Cura Crist\u00e3 <\/em>foi a primeira publica\u00e7\u00e3o da Sra. Eddy para circula\u00e7\u00e3o geral, depois de Ci\u00eancia e Sa\u00fade, <\/em>que fora publicado sete anos antes. Por volta de 1882, duas Cientistas Crist\u00e3s, Julia S. Bartlett e Abbie K. Whiting, distribu\u00edram o panfleto de porta em porta. Rememorando, Bartlett comentou:<\/p>\n

Obtivemos uma boa quantidade do panfleto A Cura Crist\u00e3, <\/em>que, na \u00e9poca, era a \u00fanica publica\u00e7\u00e3o da Ci\u00eancia Crist\u00e3 al\u00e9m de Ci\u00eancia e Sa\u00fade. <\/em>Com esses exemplares, n\u00f3s demos in\u00edcio \u00e0 nossa miss\u00e3o, escolhendo uma das melhores ruas e indo de casa em casa, ela de um lado da rua e eu do outro. Essa foi uma atitude audaz para uma t\u00edmida senhora aposentada, e exigiu muita luta contra o ego. Mas esse ficava de lado, quando eu encontrava a dona da casa, a qual sempre mostrava muito interesse no que eu tinha a dizer sobre a Ci\u00eancia Crist\u00e3 e expressava o desejo de se congregar conosco para aprender mais sobre essa Ci\u00eancia, e n\u00f3s deix\u00e1vamos um panfleto para cada fam\u00edlia ler, nesse meio tempo.<\/span>6<\/sup><\/a><\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Em 1925 A Cura Crist\u00e3 <\/em>foi inclu\u00edda em uma colet\u00e2nea de obras da Sra. Eddy, intitulada Prose Works Other than Science and Health <\/em>[Outros Escritos, al\u00e9m de Ci\u00eancia e Sa\u00fade].<\/span>7<\/sup><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n
