Notable word changes in the 1932 edition of the Christian Science Hymnal

  • Hymn 57 (WELWYN): “Father, to Thee we look in all our sorrow” was changed to “Father, to Thee we turn away from sorrow.”
  • Hymn 117 (NICAEA): “God in Three Persons, blessed Trinity” was changed to “Which wert, and art, and evermore shalt be.”
  • Hymn 258 (TON-Y-BOTEL): “Once to every man and nation” became “Oft to every man and nation.”
  • Hymn 265 (STUTTGART): “By the thorn-road, and no other” became “By the Christ road, and none other.”
  • Hymn 317 (STRENGTH AND STAY): Words that had been changed were restored in all three verses. The most significant is found in verse three: “When Divine sense bids every shadow flee” was restored to “When hearts awaking see the shadows flee.”
