This episode begins the third year of Seekers and Scholars. We locate the podcast at the intersection of spiritual quest and scholarly inquiry. In light of this anniversary, host Jonathon Eder speaks with Dr. Dan Cohen of Northeastern University about how the academic podcast can play a healing role in society, speaking to a broad public and nurturing like-hearted audiences, rather than catering only to the like-minded. Their conversation covers the spiritual foundations of the academic world and the place of religion in American society. They also discuss common ground between The Mary Baker Eddy Library and Northeastern University as neighboring institutions.

Podcast guest

Dan CohenDan Cohen is Vice Provost for Information Collaboration, Dean of the Libraries, and Professor of History at Northeastern University. His work has focused on the impact of digital media and technology on all aspects of knowledge and learning—from the nature of libraries and their evolving resources, to twenty-first century research techniques and software tools, to the changing landscape of communication and publication. Host of the “What’s New” podcast, Dr. Cohen has directed major initiatives helping to shape that future. He received a bachelor’s degree from Princeton University, majoring in religion; a masters of theological studies from Harvard Divinity School; and a master’s in philosophy and doctorate in history from Yale University. He was a 2006 inaugural recipient of the American Council of Learned Societies’s Digital Innovation Fellowship.
