Join us for an inspiring and informative conversation with one of today’s most celebrated hymn writers. Dr. Ruth Duck is known for her work in expanding the language of hymns to be more inclusive, addressing issues of justice and healing. Recognizing Dr. Duck’s contributions in the widening embrace of congregational song in our time, The Hymn Society in the United States and Canada granted her its highest honor, making her a Fellow in 2013. Four of her hymn texts are included in the newly released Christian Science Hymnal: Hymns 430–603.

We’d love to hear your responses to three short questions about our podcast. You can access the anonymous survey here:

-Dr. Ruth Duck recently retired from Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary in Evanston, Illinois, where she served as Professor of Worship for 28 years (1989–2016). Her recent writings include Worship for the Whole People of God: Vital Worship for the 21st Century (Louisville, Kentucky: Westminster John Knox Press, 2013). Dr. Duck is a prolific writer of songs for worship, and her most recent collection is The Poetry of Grace (Carol Stream, Illinois: Hope Publishing Company, 2015). She has also worked on collections of prayers and worship resources, including Touch Holiness (Cleveland, Ohio: The Pilgrim Press, 2012), a revision of the 1990 edition that she co-edited with Maren C. Tirabassi. Her hymn texts appear in the hymnals of denominations throughout the world, and the Hymn Society in the United States and Canada has honored her for her contributions to congregational song. An ordained pastor in the United Church of Christ, Dr. Duck has served churches in Wisconsin and Massachusetts. She now lives in Claremont, California.
