From the Papers: 1884 church business report

October 21, 2019

We recently published a fascinating document, handwritten by Calvin A. Frye. It’s a business report that opens a window on the early services of the Church of Christ (Scientist), its expenses, attendance, and issues.

Frye ends with the request “that each member of our church recognize the fact that a church is made up of individual members, and that we each feel that this is my church and by personal attendance a hearty welcome to strangers and encouraging and supporting our pastor in her disinterested labors with us, we may see the work of God prosper in our hands….”
